A Choice: Poverty or Prosperity

Reflection:  I think that what he says is true because if you are in poverty and you don’t like it you must succeed in order to get out of poverty. You should work hard to get out of the situation you are in and become a successful person in life.

Eastern Medicine Doctor
Duties and Responsibilities: Oriental medicine practitioners use forms of acupuncture and treatment through a Chinese concept of “qi” which means energy. Oriental medicine treats a variety of ailments that include headaches, back pain, arthritis, or other illnesses by identifying patterns of imbalance in your body. Other techniques that they use are acupuncture, cupping, acupressure, and herbal supplements that are applied to specific body parts or tissues. Practitioners must evaluate a patient with symptoms and be able to identify what organs or tissues are causing the aliment.
Salary: $61,000 a year
Education: In order to become an Eastern medicine doctor you must complete all the educational and training requirements. Some practitioners are licensed to be physician assistants; they take classes to be certified in oriental medicine. Most of the practitioners earn a Bachelor’s degree in biology or another medical related field and then go on to fill state requirements for practicing oriental medicine. Some states require students to work an intern or apprentice for a specific number of hours in order to qualify for certification.

Reflection: I wouldn’t want to be an Eastern Medicine Doctor because you use a lot of special ways to treat patients not like other doctors. They use herbs and must come up with a special plan that includes oriental herbs and practices into a treatment.

Reflection: I think that this statement is true because he did everything right and this caused him to leave a legacy and get lots of love and respect and if you always do what is right then you may get honored like Dean Smith and also get respect like him.
Airline Pilots
Duties and Responsibilities: Airline pilots fly and navigate planes, helicopters, and other aircraft. They transport people and cargo safely to their destinations and usually spend most of their time away from home. They also check for weather and see if it’s a good day to fly or not.
Salary: $114,200
Education: In order to become an airline pilot you must begin as a commercial pilot they usually just need a high school diploma. After becoming a commercial pilot you must have a Bachelor’s degree to become an airline pilot. Also they must pass the Airline Transport Pilot (ATP).

Reflection: I wouldn’t like to be an airline pilot because they spend a lot of time away from home and I wouldn’t want that. Also they must be sure they can be able to control a plane and know what to do if there’s an emergency and I would most likely panic especially because there in the air. It pays well but they have to do a lot of things that I wouldn’t want to do.

Reflection: I think that what he says is true because if you lead your life the right way you will be happy with no problems and everything will be good you will not have any bad things happen to you because you lead your life the right way but if you lead it the wrong way, you will have bad things that happen to you and you will have problems because you choose to lead your life the wrong way.
Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Doctor
Duties and Responsibilities: An ENT doctor is a specialist surgeon or physician that is responsible for diagnosing and treating conditions that originate in the head and neck that includes respiratory infections, balance and hearing problems, and thyroid problems. These specialist work long hours and about 43% of these specialists say that they work about 50 hours or more a week. They spend most of their time investigating or diagnosing patients.
Salary: about $300,000
Education:  In order to become an ENT doctor, you must complete and receive a bachelor’s degree which usually takes about 4 year before enrolling into a four year medical school. They must also enroll in a residency program and a specialized program that focuses on the sub field they want to specialize in. Those programs usually last about 2-3 years and are followed by an internship.
Reflection: I would not like to become an ENT doctor because you have to work with people in very delicate areas and I wouldn’t want to do that because I can make a mistake and I wouldn’t want to hurt them. They pay well but it’s a long road to become a specialized ENT doctor you have to 8 years of school plus 2-3 more from programs you must take and that is a lot.

Reflection:  I think that what he says is true because every time you do something that isn’t right you have bad consequences and every time you do something right or something that feels right you get good consequences.
Electrocardiograph Technician
Duties and Responsibilities:  Electrocardiograph technicians explain to patients and attach electrodes to them to prepare for an EKG test. The electrodes are attached to the EKG machine and it measures electrical impulses from the heart. With the EKG machine it can help the doctors see what is wrong with the patient’s heart. An electrocardiograph technician may work in the insurance industry, clinics, hospitals, or medical laboratories.
Salary: $25,998 - $44,062
Education: In order to become an electrocardiograph technician you must complete a certificate program or on the job training. Some courses that you may take in a certificate program are anatomy, CPR, EKG analysis, diagnostic electrocardiography, and electrocardiogram techniques.  In most states they require those technicians to be licensed and they also ask for certification. You must also have good communicating skills to be able to explain to the patients what they are going through and to calm them down if they get agitated.
Reflection: I think that this is a good job to have because it seems really easy and it does not have a lot of educational requirements. Another thing is that it is a way to help people when they have trouble with their hearts maybe you can save a life and that will make you feel good about yourself. I would actually like to have this job because I think I have good communicating skills.

Winter Break
During my winter break I didn't really do anything i just spent time with my family during Christmas and New Years. On Christmas I got a sweater and a Starbucks card. Before New years I went to Big Bear with my family we had so much fun we had a sled and we all slid down the hill and we climbed mountains and threw snowballs at each other. Another thing that I did during winter break was move.

Reflection: I think that what he says is that the purpose of education is to be intelligent and have good character and if you have that you will be successful in life.
Registered Dietitian
Duties and Responsibilities: A registered dietician is a nutrition expert who has reached educational and experiential requirements set by the Commission on Dietic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition’s and Dietics (AND). They may work at places like schools, long term care facilities, hospitals, community/public health facilities, corporate nutrition programs, the food and nutrition industry, sport nutrition, business, and research.
Salary: $56,170 - $88,100
Education: In order to become a registered dietician you must complete a college/university educational program in dietics or nutrition that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietics (ACEND). Some educational programs are coordinated program in Dietetics and Didactic program plus Dietetic Internship. Coursework must include subjects like chemistry, biochemistry, physiology and anatomy, sociology, computer science, etc.

Reflection: I would like to be a registered dietician because you can help people with food and nutrition problems. Also you can get paid well and you don’t need a lot of time in school. Another thing is that you can help people with their diets and help them be healthy acoording to their bodies.
