Student Success Statement

“I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he’s right, and part with him when he goes wrong.”
-Abraham Lincoln

Reflection: I think that this is a good quote because if you have friends that choose the right it’s a good healthy friendship because you will choose the right together but if you are friends with someone who chooses the wrong they will influence you to choose the wrong and that’s not a good friendship. For example if you have a friend that wants to do drugs and is encouraging you to do them with him he is not a good friend because he is choosing the wrong and taking you with him and sooner or later you’re going to choose the wrong too. If you have a good friend that likes to study and he/she always invites you to study together that is a good friendship because they are choosing the right like you.
April Fool’s Day
April fool’s day is on the 1st day of April. The purpose of April fool’s day is to make pranks, jokes, and harmless hoaxes on people. Some theories based on April fool’s day are that since pope Gregory ordered a new calendar and New Year’s was originally celebrated on April the 1st and since they changed the calendar they moved New Years to the 1st of January. Many people refused to accept the new date and didn’t learn about it and other people started making fun of those tradionalists that didn’t accept the change and started sending them “fool’s errand’s” or trying to trick them into believing something false. Another theory about this date is that a history professor Joseph Boskin explained to his students that April fools begin in Rome during the reign of Constantine, many groups of court jesters and fools told the emperor that they could do a better job at running the empire so Constantine amused let a court jester named Kugel to be king for a day. A pro about April fools is that you can fool and joke around and have a good time, a con is that you may get pranked and you may not like it or you will get hurt.

“Character is higher than intellect.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Reflection: I think that this quote is true because if you have a good character and not so good an intellect  people will like you and get along with you even if our not that smart  but, if you have good intellect and bad character then no one will like to be around you even if you’re a smart person.

Health Sciences Librarian
Duties and Responsibilities: A health sciences librarian is someone who helps provide access to medical information through books, pamphlets, journals, tapes, multimedia presentations, and the internet.  They help health providers, patients, and student sort out through the immense amounts of information available.
Salary: $ 58,000

Reflection: I would not like to become a health sciences librarian because it seems like a hard job to do. It requires you to get a Bachelor’s and later on a Master’s degree and that takes a long time to complete. They also don’t pay that well but it seems like an easy job but just the things you have to do to become one is difficult.

“I trust that my hard work will pay off.”
-Tyler Haws

Reflection: I think that this quote is good because he is proof that hard work pays off. He worked hard to be able to play basketball and he decided to play for BYU. Then he left for a missionary project for 2 years to Thailand and he didn’t practice or did nothing but dedicate his time there to being a missionary. Then after the 2 years were over he went back to BYU and he started playing basketball again.
Pyramids of Egypt
The pyramids were built when Egypt was the richest and most powerful civilization. They are part of some of the most magnificent man-made structures in history. The scale of the pyramid shows how much of a unique role a pharaoh or a king played in ancient Egypt. Because kings held a unique place in society, people thought that they were chosen by god to serve as mediators between them because they were somewhere between human and divine. As a result to that everyone wanted to keep the kings majesty intact even after death. Ancient Egyptians thought that when a king dies part of its spirit still remained in its body. Once the king would die they would mummify the corpse and then bury it with all the things they thought he would need in the afterlife like, gold vessels, food, furniture, and other offerings. They would think that the riches that they would offer him wouldn’t just serve him but priests, relatives, and officials that were buried near him.
Did you know???
·        The pyramids smooth, angled sides symbolized the rays of the sun and were designed to help the kings soul ascend to heaven and join the gods.
·        There are more than 130 pyramids discovered in Egypt.
·        The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest and largest of three pyramids in Giza Necropolis.
·        One tomb that has been left intact was the one of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings.
·        Pyramids were usually built of limestone.
·        Most of the pyramids are built west of the Nile River because the western side is associated with the land of the dead.

“True independence and freedom can only exist in doing what’s right.”
-Brigham Young
Reflection: I think that this quote is true because if you do everything right you will be independent. For example when you’re getting out of high school and you want to live by yourself and your parents don’t let you they don’t let you because you’re not independent and until your independent you can be free do to whatever you want to so that why you have to do everything right.

Olivet, Michigan
Keith, Justice, Parker                        Olivet Middle School Eagles
In the video there were two students that wanted to make someone’s day and it was Keith’s. At a home football game they decided to include Keith in the game. Since he has a learning disability they had to protect him if he was going to play so they all huddled around him and he scored a touchdown. His family and he were very happy. I think that Justice learned that by including someone in something may make their day and make them happy.

They’re only truly great who are truly good.”
-George Chapman
Reflection: I think that this is true because only great people who are good succeed in life. Student Success Statement
“Many think that the short term gain will be worth the long term pain, but it isn’t. In addition, using steroids is cheating, and there is nothing worse in sports than a cheater. Don’t do it.”
-George Mitchell (Senate Majority Leader, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Disney Chairman of the Board)
Reflection: I think that this quote is true because a short term gain can affect you or if you’re in sports it can affect your team. It’s not worth it because in the long run everybody will blame you for cheating if you’re in a team and if your just cheating in school for example on a test your only cheating yourself because when you need to know from the test you cheated on you won’t know anything because you cheated.

Student Success Statement
“I won’t cheat.”
-Dale Murphy

Reflection: I think that this quote is good because we should all make a promise to ourselves and to others that we won’t cheat. It’s better for us not to cheat because we won’t feel bad about what we have done in the pass and we’ll live happy, but if we do cheat we will always have that bad memory of when we cheated and we won’t be happy.
Oncologist
Duties and Responsibilities: An oncologist is someone who is specialized and trained in a variety of cancer diagnostics and treatments like chemotherapy and radiation therapy. They also collect medical history and do physical evaluations. They perform a lot of diagnostic procedures like, scanning techniques, x-rays, magnetic resonance imaging, surgical operations, and biopsies.
Salary: $217,856 - $370,000

Then they must train another 3-5 years in medical residency depending on what their specialty is. Then they must train again for 3 years for additionally residency or fellowship. Then they must take a licensing exam and pass it before they are able to practice.
Reflection: I wouldn’t want to become an oncologist because it takes a lot of education and by the time you leave high school you’ll be 20 and then you have to take another 14-16 years in college and training in order to be able to practice and you’ll be old by then so you will retire much quicker. Also it’s a lot of work for this because you are helping people with cancer and you must be careful.

Student Success Statement
“Character matters most.”
-Dale Murphy

Reflection: I think that this statement is true because if you don’t have a good character no one will like you and no one will approach you. Having good character is important because everyone will say good things about and honor you as well. If you don’t have good character you may not have many friends and you may choose the wrong in order to get something that you only receive with good character.
Heliotherapy
Duties and Responsibilities: Heliotherapy’s are treatments with natural and artificial light. This can help with skin disorders, chiefly psoriasis, acne vulgaris, eczema and neonatal jaundice. It can also help the eye with a light therapy that attacks the retina and is used to treat circadian rhythm disorders such as late sleep phase disorder and can also be used to treat seasonal affective disorder, with some support for its use also with non-seasonal psychiatric disorders.
Reflection: I wouldn’t want to become a heliotherapist because it seems boring and I had never heard of this method of treating things. Also it doesn’t show much information of how to become one and how much it pays.

Student Success Statement
“Great beauty, great strengths, and great riches are really and truly of no great use; a right heart exceeds all.”
-Benjamin Franklin
Reflection: I think this is trying to say that if you have beauty, riches, and strengths in the world it doesn’t matter because if you don’t have a right heart it’s of no use. If you don’t have a right heart it’s because you must’ve done something wrong and maybe that’s how you received all the riches but when you see all those riches it is always going to remind you of the wrong that you have done.

Health Educator
Duties and Responsibilities: Health educators teach other people about the behaviors that promote wellness. They collect data and discuss about health concerns with the communities. They also find strategies that help improve the health in a community. They teach people how to cope with or manage existing health conditions, they supervise staff that implement health education programs, collect and analyze data, help people find health services or information and many other things.
Salary: $ 41,830
Education: In order to become a health educator you must have a Bachelor’s degree in health promotions or health education. They also must complete a program that teaches students theories and methods of health education. If you want to work in a federal or state government agency you must have a masters or doctoral degree.
Reflection: I wouldn’t want to become a health educator because it’s a lot of work that you must put in to become one and if you want to win more money and work in a federal agency you must work even harder to obtain your master’s degree. It takes a lot of time to complete this and you still have to take training for a while and I just want to get a job that you can complete fast.
