Oncologist
Duties and Responsibilities: An oncologist is someone who is specialized and trained in a variety of cancer diagnostics and treatments like chemotherapy and radiation therapy. They also collect medical history and do physical evaluations. They perform a lot of diagnostic procedures like, scanning techniques, x-rays, magnetic resonance imaging, surgical operations, and biopsies.
Salary: $217,856 - $370,000
Education: In order to become an oncologist you must 8 years or more of undergraduate and medical school. Then they must train another 3-5 years in medical residency depending on what their specialty is. Then they must train again for 3 years for additionally residency or fellowship. Then they must take a licensing exam and pass it before they are able to practice.
Reflection: I wouldn’t want to become an oncologist because it takes a lot of education and by the time you leave high school you’ll be 20 and then you have to take another 14-16 years in college and training in order to be able to practice and you’ll be old by then so you will retire much quicker. Also it’s a lot of work for this because you are helping people with cancer and you must be careful.
